Mountain Bike Camps    

As the name suggests, Bike About Mountain Bike Tours specialise in Moutain Camps and touring. We have access to some of the best Mountain Biking locations in South Asutralia. Our experience and knowledge in the field means we can plan and run the perfect Outdoor Ed camp for your school. We can tailor any program to meet your learning outcomes and accomodate for all year levels and skill levels. At Bike About we believe that Outdoor Education is a fantastic way to encourage kids to learn about the world around them, through the many activities they participate in, we have a common goal in teaching the students "Life skills" such as Team work, Positive thinking, Encouragement, Leadership, innitiative and indipendence.

 

Safety is out Number one Priority and we pride ourselves on our reputaion for Safety in our programs. We have the experience and local knowledge of the area's we run our programs in to ensure the Safety of everyone involved. We have extensive risk managment and instructor training specific to the field of Mountain Biking, which is why we have a great reputation when it comes to participant safety in our programs. We provide Support vehicles, Emergency contacts, First aid trained and equiped instructors, UHF radio's, High visibility vests, and together with our operating policies and procedures we do everything we can to ensure the safety of all participants on our programs.

Suggested Mountain Bike Camp Programs

 

 

Kuitpo Forest

 

 

Located about an hour from the city, Kuitpo Forest is a fantastic location for short MTB camps. Camping is availible at a few different locations, and the forest caters for up to 3 days of riding.

Kuitpo Forest offers a range of riding difficulties catering from easy fire trails and dirt roads for beginners, to the cross country and downhill tracks at Christmas Hill.

 

Location: Brooks rd, Meadows

 

Camp Duration: 2 - 3 days

 

Accomodation: Bush camping / Wood cutters cottage

 

Activities: MTB, Bush walking, Orienteering, Survival skills, Problem solving and much more

 

Skill / Fitness Level: Low to High

 

 

Mountain Bike Training Program

 

 

Our MTB training camp is designed to bring participants from what ever level they come to camp at, to a higher level with both skills and knowledge about Mountain Biking, as well as teaching the "life skills" that such an activity has to offer.

 

The camp is designed to progress to higher riding levels as we seek to constantly challange the students under safe guidelines and training.

 

This camp starts at Kuitpo Forest and then moves forward to Thomas Hill (fox Creek mtb park) Bendleby Ranges and finally Melrose mtb park in the Souther Flinders ranges.

 

Duration: 4 -5 days

 

Locations: Kuitpo Forest, Thomas Hill, Bendleby Ranges, Melrose and surrounding area's

 

Accomodation: Bush camping /  Thomas Hill study centre / Caravan park

 

Activities: MTB

 

Skill / Fitness Level: Medium to High (this camp can be adjusted to suit beginner groups)

 

 

 

 

 

Mawson Trail # 1 MTB

 

 

This camp uses a journey style expedition where we move from one location to the next, following the Mawson Trail (900km long from Adelaide to Blinman). This camp Begins at Melrose where we use the trails located in this area before heading south to Bartagunyah Winnery estate, Wirrabara Forest and Bundaleer Forest.

 

Whilst this camp takes on a cycle touring approach the focus is very much on off road mountain biking providing a fun and adventurous way to see some of South Australia's beautiful landscape whilst challeneging and educating the students in Mountain Biking and Outdoor Education

 

Duration: 3 - 5 Days

 

Locations: Melrose, Bartagunyah, Wirrabara, Bundaleer

 

Accomodation: Bush camping

 

Activities: MTB, problem solving

 

Skill / Fitness Level: Medium to high (this camp is dificult to cater for lower fitness levels and beginners)

 

 

Mawson Trail # 2 Cycle Tour

 

 

 

 

Starting in the beautiful township of Melrose, located at the foot of Mt Remarkable, This trip offers a unique way of seeing our beautiful country side aswell as learning about the local History of the towns and area's that pioneered Outback South Australia. With a heavy focus on Education of both the local area's and the skills involved with camping and mountain biking. This trip is ideal for those wanting an energitic yet comfortably filled day that caters for all. As the focus of this trip is Cycle Touring we dont all need to be experts in the field of off road Mountain Biking, yet the trails provide for some fast fun and exciting riding.

 

Day 1: travel to melrose, MTB training + Historical tour of Melrose

Day 2: Travel by bike to Wirrabara

Day 3: Wirrabara Nursary ruins then travel by bike to Laura (home of Golden North ice cream) travel by bus to Bundaleer Forest staying at Curnows Hut (or ride 67km in total)

Day 4: Travel by bike to the Jamestown - Spalding rd, load up in us, travel to Burra for lunch, Historical tour of Burra including dugouts, brewry cellars and Red Ruth gaol. travel by bus to begining of Riesling trail in the Clare valley, then ride into Clare Valley Tourist Park

Day 5: Ride the Riesling trail, visit Seven Hill Winnery for a historical tour, Load up in Auburn,(depart camp for 5 day trips) Travel by bus to Thomas Hill Study Centre in Fox Creek.

Day 6: ride to the historical german town of Hahndorf then return to school

 

 

Duration: 5 - 6 Days

Skill / Fitness Level: Medium to high (this camp is dificult to cater for lower fitness levels and beginners)

 

 

Melrose

 

 

Melrose is fast becoming one of South Australia's most popular MTB destinations. Hosting events such as the Fat Tyre Festival, Melrose offers some of the best riding around and such is the ideal venu to base a MTB camp.

 

Melrose has a great camp site at the foot of the trails, a bike shop in town who's owners have built the trails. Surrounding area's such as bartagunyah winnery estate host even more trails and are easily within riding distance. melrose can cater for a short MTB camp on its own or be used in conjunction with other locations for longer camps. Bike About can also offer a Hiking component to the camp taking students into the historic Aligator Gorge and hiking through the Mt Remarkable national park for 2.5 days then swapping over for 2.5 days of MTB

 

Duration: 3 days (5 days if partnered with Bushwalking)
